Accommodation options

Like any city, there are many different types of student accommodation options to choose from.

Homestay

Some international students who are freshly arrived in Aotearoa New Zealand prefer a homestay option, where you live with a local family. This is a good way to learn more about the local culture and get extra support.

Hostels

Many students opt for campus hostels or halls of residence, which tertiary institutions run for their students. There are also privately run multi-share residences. These options are a great way to get to know people and make new friends.

If it’s your first time living away from home, this is an excellent way to learn how to be independent. You’ll have your own bedroom in most places but will share bathrooms, kitchens and recreation areas. In some halls of residence, meals are also provided.

Flat Share

If you’ve been here a while, you may want to go ‘flatting’ with a group of others. Flatting allows you to share a private home and expenses with others.

You can find out more about the onsite accommodation options for each institution on their websites.
